Speaking of orthopedics--see post below--just learned that my dear college-friend-of-the-very-best-kind will undergo knee surgery this morning at Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail. She tore her ACL a week ago while skiing. An expert skier who was aiming for 50 swipes on her ski pass this season, she had to come to a quick stop to avoid hitting a small child who had turned suddenly in front of her. Double the disappointment because she was training for a triathlon this summer, and trying to get me to train for the triathlon, too. Here's hoping that next year we'll both be up for it! I post this photo--taken a few seasons back, on Vail--to remind her of more stable days for her knee.
